Hundreds of thousands of volunteers have stepped up to assist people who need to self-isolate or shield from the virus. Our volunteers are matched via the GoodSAM app with members of their community who need support.
The help on offer ranges from help with grocery shopping and collecting prescriptions to ‘check in and chat’ phone calls. The volunteers also help the NHS with patient transport and transport of medical equipment and supplies.
People who need help can be referred to the service in a number of ways:
If you or someone you know is self-isolating or shielding at home or you are a carer in need of support, then our NHS Volunteer Responders are available to help. Call 0808 196 3646 (8am to 8pm) to arrange a volunteer
Health and social care professionals can refer people directly into this service whose health conditions make them vulnerable to COVID-19. Frontline NHS and Social Care staff are also able to refer themselves into the scheme.
NHS Volunteer Responders is being delivered by Royal Voluntary Service one of the country’s largest and longest-standing volunteering charities.
